The Future Artifact
Phase 1 Storyboards
Phase 2 Storyboard
Joint Research
Phase 1:
The site is established as a future artifact beginning with the concept of a permanent nontemporary structure that is reborn throughout time’s progression. Both structure and nature give new opportunities to each other to be reborn. Site elevation changes allow the site to become something that nature can navigate, developing it as a permanent temporary structure as nature will take it over and rewrite it while man-made changes do the same for nature. The dichotomy of nature and industrial artifact also showcases itself throughout the material. My materiality is bringing a contrast of man made and natural forms- copper bamboo and concrete fish. Out of these moments, pockets of natural development either absorb the structure or mimic the structure. Layers and incomplete planar surfaces blur inside and outside so it's formed like a forest would be- both of man and of nature. Elevation is transcending alongside the program but in a way that is working alongside earthly elements of the site by giving nature a site it can navigate. Therefore, guaranteeing that the structure will be reborn through time, establishing my site as a future artifact.
Phase 2:
The structure itself was designed to allow form to also reflect nature. Drawing inspiration from the structure of vines as well as the health benefits of natural lighting, cuts are made throughout the structure that develop pathways between buildings, both flooding the site with natural light and allowing organic movement. In these created paths, connections and moments of nature are born, inviting people to celebrate the vining nature and architecture that these cuts provide.
In the center of the site, lies the tree of life as a central meeting point for people, health and art as it represents interconnections. The materiality itself was also drawn from the framework of vines.
